A few weeks ago I bough a "vintage" shaper (Lewis 10") and now I'm going through the restoration process.
The machine was mostly there, except the feed mechanism is missing a few minor parts, so I have a few questions:
On the shapers I've seen before the arm that connects to the ratchet mechanism is geared; mine is direct-drive (as shown in the picture). I don't fully understand what the purpose of the gearing is, so I'm wondering if my setup will work.
