Hi All! Has anyone ever used Hockey Pucks as foot mounts on a stand-up air compressor?

Dear god why....

Someone let these treasures sit outside for 20 years. Look at the size of that shaper! (I mean, that oil tanker anchor)

It's time to lay out some air lines.
This sure looks like the way to go.

This is the kit from McMaster for $129.
Anyone use this kit?

Chuck slips on taper

Hi - I have a Homier 03947 Mini-Mill that uses R8 holders. The chuck has a JT33 taper, I think. The chuck will sometimes slip or fall off completely. There appears to be some minor scoring on the JT33 taper, too. Any thoughts?

Thanks for your input.

I have a hankering and none of the skill to own a Mill. I'm also limited on budget (~$1700). Suggestions would be appreciated.

What's the best way to clean this up?

I acquired this as part of one of the collections of random machinist tools I have. It may actually have come from my father in-laws set.

Everything functions smoothly, it has a nice feel to it. However the surface rust has made it pretty much useless. I had set it aside with the idea of some day bringing it back to usable condition. I like old tools and would actually use this if I could read it.

What's the best approach to clean it up?
Any advice on how to bring it back to life?

Inop motor on new PM-30MV

My new PM-30MV arrived DOA in December. Safetys work, 220VAC to board, replacement board sent and still not working. All wiring checked ok for broken loose wires, tach lights up showing 0000. Complete schematic including how to measure the voltages off the 8 wires going to the motor are apparently not available. No replacement motor is currently available. Mike at PM has been nice trying to get info from Taiwanese vendor, but no feedback yet and its the Chinese New Year. Any suggestions...

Another lathe tool height gauge design. One on a bridge to go across the ways for long tools like boring bars. One that sits right on the cross slide for shorter tools, These things are great time savers. height gauge magnet.JPG height gauges both.JPG

I am closing the deal on a 1959 DoALL 16-3 124-59270 vertical bandsaw with air pump, coolant pump and hydraulic table feed. I found the parts manual or shall I say another member was kind enough to share a link to one. I am now looking for the Instruction/ Operators manual and electrical schematic. If anyone has a copy they are willing to share, I would be so great full.

Thanks in advance

Will

Micro overkill X1 micro mill cnc conversion build

Been poking at this for a bit and finally have the motors mock mounted so I thought I'd share the build. This is a HF X1 mill stripped down with both X and Y replaced with HG20 rails and ballscrews. The working area is ~260mm X, 150mm Y, and 240mm Z. The Z is a KR33 bolted onto the back of the original column (the column is reversed with the dovetail on the back now). Without much shimming it is running about .1mm over 300mm in the Z and the X and Y are < .03mm. The motor mounts are a...

South Bend 9A restoration happening w/pics!!

I bought a SB 9A off eBay and should be here in a week or 10 days. In my "enthusiasm" I didn't check everything in detail and will need a lot of work and parts. I plan on salvaging and swapping parts off my 9C to make it complete and original. Here are a few pics of what I'm dealing with. Worst part is the spindle pulley shaft is spot welded into the spindle shaft. "Maybe" it can be repaired by removing the spot welds.

Mini Split install

In June I bought a place with a 1700 square foot shop, there was a house too :p

The shop has no heat or cooling in it. For power it had 70 amps taken from the house which isn't near enough for me. Today I completed my 400 amp power upgrade and had everything hooked up by the PUD. Now the house has 200 amps, and so does the shop. I did it all myself, it was quite a chore to say the least. But I wasn't willing to pay $4000 to an electrician to do it. I must have done ok, I passed both...

Why wont Precision Matthews respond to my technical support questions via their website?
It's been 7 days since I sent the technical support department at Precision Matthews, requesting detailed information on how to adjust the ball nuts on my PM 940 cnc.
Just today, I send another 2nd request for help.

Is Precision Matthews still in operations? Have other members experienced the same poor "after the sale" technical support?

I'm going to give then another 7 days to respond before I start...

Tools you can make for the Atlas Milling Machine

I am now able to submit this thread due to the valuable assistance of Robert D. also known as wa5cab. Thank you Robert! A corrupt photo froze the system, I removed it.
Photo 700, shows a collage of home shop made tools that will work on the Atlas Milling machine.
Front left, shows end and shell mill holders. Holders mounted on the threaded spindle are far more rigid than the Morse taper holder. I don’t have a tap this size. The threads are cut with a single point inside threading tool...
