'new' Powr-kraft 10" Lathe And Some Questions.

Well, after owning my first lathe (Craftsman/Atlas 6") for only a few months, I'm already 'upgrading'! Over the weekend, I picked up a Powr-Kraft (Logan) model 15TLC-2136 while traveling to visit family. I wasn't really shopping, but here on the high plains, this stuff is scarce and you better get it when you can (at least that's what I told my wife). The man I bought it from acquired it when he bought his deceased neighbor's machine tools. He tells me that it was in pieces when he got...

So i got it today. some minor damage very old, looks non critical. Its otherwise all here, looks like a line shaft converted to a electric drive, with a hand clutch. maybe a factory job, and it could be newer. what a monster. Has a 4 speed box inline. All the surfaces are greased. looks to have been stored properly. I will repower it this week and fire it up.

Pm1340gt Lathe Basic Vfd Control Conversion Using The Stock Control Board And Switches

Many individuals buy the PM1340GT lathe as a 3 phase machine with the intent to convert it over to a VFD system, the usual VFD that is used is the Hitachi WJ200-015SF. Unfortunately the conversion often requires a somewhat complex and costly conversion process to optimize many of the VFD functions. In many cases the machines may sit for many months if one is not familiar with how to do the conversion. I normally do these builds/conversions for other individuals, and have shared this...

Tachometer Mount for MV100 Mill

$

When I bought it, my MV100 mill didn't come with the tachometer that was supposed to be mounted in the head cover. This is a bit of an annoyance with the Reeve's drive setup in this machine. I happened to find a nice old Stewart-Warner tach at an estate sale a while later, but was disappointed to discover that it didn't quite fit the hole in the head, and I never really got around to turning the right bushing on the lathe. Finally, over the weekend I measured everything up, threw some CAD...

Some general lathe questions and some specific ones on a Clausing 5914 lathe

I picked up a Clausing 5914 lathe , I've read some things about it , from the internet brochure that model has 2 HP 3 phase motor , this one supposed to have 240v single , I'm going from the fellow who bought it to resell so that needs to be one of the first things to find out that might be a big problem . First question of many is ,,,. It didn't come with a tailstock just a turret set-up . I would think it should be repeatable so one opening could be used as a center ? The brochure also...

Bondo on machine tools?

$

I'm refurbishing my old Lagun CNC and while sanding off a few layers of bad paint jobs, I started sanding into what looks like bondo. I guess that makes sense; castings aren't perfect and filling them in with Bondo is logical. But how common is that? Does it mean anything? Do all the machine tool manufacturers do that? Or is it a sign of a "nice" machine, that they would take the time to fill in aesthetic imperfections on something so utilitarian?

HF Mill Drill

The round column HF Mill Drill is $1200 and I have a 20% coupon that gets me this machine for $960. What is the consensus on the usefullness of this machine? I currently do all my milling on a lathe and this would be a step up for me. I have zero room in my shop so I would have to get rid of my drill press and put the mill drill in it's place. A more expensive mill is not an option for me right now and I'd like to pull the trigger on a machine before all this tariff business raises the...

Horizontal/vertical spin indexer question

Hello,
This is a recent acquisition. I bought it used for a fair price.
It’s a Shars brand.
I know nothing about them and I need your advice.
The pin at an angle seems to be in a portion of the casting that looks to be defective??
Is this something that can be remedied?
It appears to be of questionable quality. DE9F523B-759E-46FB-AB08-C8B1E8D95D86.jpeg 95E14B11-A4CE-47D6-A183-FF9F7E22E48E.jpeg DA65809A-EF0C-463A-9191-C60EA152CEB3.jpeg 10D6AB18-D1F0-4DD8-8F1A-4342F2A0278B.jpeg

How do you know when you need spindle bearings? (Sharp HMV Knee Mill)

I bought this mill about a year ago.
I checked it out as best as I could. I asked the operator to go through all it's functions, auto feed etc.
I ran it in back gear and all through the RPM range.
The table went from one end to the other with no bind and consistent resistance.
It is quiet, robust -3,000 lbs., has a NT30 taper spindle, 3 HP 3 phase.
It's a beast.
The reason I ask?
I get chatter sometimes. I don't have a lot of milling experience so maybe it would chatter under the...

Need guidance or procedure to adjust the gibs on my PM940-cnc

Hi,
Is there a detailed guide or procedure on how to adjust the gibs on my PM940-cnc?
Perhaps there is a member in San Francisco that would help me adjust my gibs?
I would compensate for their time.

Update:
I may have miss spoke about adjusting the gibs.
I really need to make adjustments for backlash in the x and y axis and not sure how to go about it.
My circles are no longer cutting round.
So I need to adjust the lead screws for correction.

Thank you in advance.

Making a longer chuck key

The chuck key that comes with my mini-lathe is just long enough to do the job, but not long enough to be convenient. By not long enough, I often bust my knuckles, or manage to hit the dial indicator because the handles are not far enough away from the chuck. So I'd like to change that. Handles could be a little longer, but, that's not as important as increasing the body length. I have 2 chucks, a 3J and a 4J. The keys are annoyingly too short.

I have some O1 steel in 0.625" diameter...

Savage 10/110 short action blue prints?

Hi All
I’m building a Long Range 6.5 Creedmoor rifle on an 110 SA Gen1 aka series J. It has a 4.522” screw CtoC spacing, it has a blind magazine and I want to machine the receiver to accept a detachable box magazine so I can use a full length 20 MOA scope mount, so I can load and or unload the rifle easier without jacking the bolt on each round. I have a set bottom metal that takes AR10 Mags but the bottom opening need to be opened up and centered for the magazine mouth. I have all ready...
